Baked Spaghetti

Here is an American classic that tastes even better the next day. Baked spaghetti! I think the key to this dish is a fairly thick and rich sauce. A lovely fresh tomato sauce, while delicious, just doesn’t work here. Prego is perfect because it is a heavy and sweet.

1/2 package spaghetti noodles
1 tablespoon oil
1 onion sliced
2 garlic cloves sliced
1 jar spaghetti sauce (we are particular to Prego for this type of dish)
Maggi Hot & Sweet Chili Sauce or ketchup and red chili flakes
Sugar & salt
Cheddar cheese shredded
Sour cream (as a topping)

  1. Boil noodles according to package directions.
  2. Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees.
  3. Heat oil in a medium sauce pan.
  4. Add onions and cook for a few minutes.
  5. Add garlic and continue to cook until the onions and garlic are soft.
  6. Add the spaghetti sauce, Maggi, sugar and salt to taste.
  7. Add the boiled spaghetti and stir. It should be pretty saucey.
  8. Top with cheddar cheese and bake for 45 minutes.
  9. Serve with sour cream.
