The first time I had it I loved it! And I think it must have been an instant version, which is also good, but doesn&#8217;t compare to homemade.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-2287\" title=\"Upma\" src=\"http:\/\/mayabugs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/Upma-1024x764.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"764\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mayabugs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/Upma-1024x764.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/mayabugs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/Upma-400x298.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>2 teaspoons butter<br \/>\n1 cup suji<br \/>\n2 teaspoons oil<br \/>\n1 teaspoon mustard seeds<br \/>\n1 teaspoon urad dal<br \/>\n1 teaspoon channa dal<br \/>\n5-6 curry leaves<br \/>\n1 small onion chopped<br \/>\n1 teaspoon ginger minced<br \/>\n3 green chiles cut lengthwise<br \/>\n3-4 cups of water<br \/>\nSalt<br \/>\nSqueeze lime<br \/>\nCilantro finely chopped<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Heat butter in a skillet and toast suji until lightly tan.<\/li>\n<li>In a saucepan heat oil and add mustard seeds until they start to pop.<\/li>\n<li>Add urad dal, channa dal, and curry leaves and saute until toasted.<\/li>\n<li>Add onions, ginger and green chilis and saute until the onions are soft.<\/li>\n<li>Add suji, water and salt. Add water slowly in order to get the\u00a0consistency\u00a0you would like.
