I found a new chaat that I love, channa masala chaat! I woke up wanting all the chaat topping but on something hot. But not on samosas because I wasn&#8217;t feeling potatoes and I wasn&#8217;t really feeling something wrapped; I wanted hot and saucy. Kind of like the <a title=\"Misal Pav &amp; Kat\" href=\"http:\/\/mayabugs.com\/blog\/2012\/03\/03\/misal-pav-kat\/\">misal pav<\/a>\u00a0I made a while back. Back then Tejas had said that the misal pav was similar to another dish, so I asked him what that dish was but he couldn&#8217;t remember. I finally just started making the channa masala\u00a0that I made before for <a title=\"Samosa Chaat w\/ Channa Masala\" href=\"http:\/\/mayabugs.com\/blog\/indian-recipes\/chaat\/samosa-chaat-w-channa-masala\/\">samosa chaat<\/a>. I changed it up a little, adding chaat masala and a pinch of cinnamon, and was almost done when Tejas came into the kitchen and said, Oh! That is like masala puri! Not totally satisfied with my chole, I began looking up masala puri. Well, it uses peas, not chole and no yogurt which I was very much craving, but I found a couple of other ingredients that I decided to add. One of my favorite recipe blogs is <a title=\"Aayi's Recipes\" href=\"http:\/\/www.aayisrecipes.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Aayia&#8217;s Recipes<\/a> and she posted a version\u00a0of the recipe <a title=\"Aayi's Masala Puri\" href=\"http:\/\/www.aayisrecipes.com\/2010\/03\/19\/masala-puri-2\/\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>. The coconut caught my eye and a few other recipes called for garam masala. So here is the finished channa massala chaat!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/mayabugs.com\/blog\/indian-recipes\/chaat\/channa-masala-chaat\/attachment\/channa-massala-chat\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2540\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-2540\" title=\"Channa Massala Chat\" src=\"http:\/\/mayabugs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/Channa-Massala-Chat-764x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"764\" height=\"1024\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mayabugs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/Channa-Massala-Chat-764x1024.jpg 764w, https:\/\/mayabugs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/Channa-Massala-Chat-298x400.jpg 298w, https:\/\/mayabugs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/Channa-Massala-Chat.jpg 1936w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 764px) 100vw, 764px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Channa Masala<\/span><br \/>\n1 tablespoon oil<br \/>\n1\/2 teaspoon cumin seeds (jeera)<br \/>\n1 pinch hing (asofoetida)<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n1 small onion chopped<br \/>\n1\/2 teaspoon ginger paste (you could also use fresh minced)<br \/>\n1 cube Trader Joe\u2019s frozen garlic (you could also use fresh minced)<br \/>\n1\/2 teaspoon turmeric<br \/>\n1 teaspoon chili powder<br \/>\n1\/2 teaspoon garam masala<br \/>\n1 1\/2 teaspoon rajma or channa masala<br \/>\n1 teaspoon chaat masala<br \/>\n1\/2 teaspoon amchur powder<br \/>\n1\/4 cup\u00a0desiccated\u00a0coconut<br \/>\n1 cup crushed tomatoes<br \/>\n2 teaspoon sugar<br \/>\n1 can garbanzo beans drained<br \/>\nSalt<br \/>\nWater<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Heat oil in a small saucepan and add jeera until toasty.<\/li>\n<li>Add hing and onions and cook onions until soft and brown.<\/li>\n<li>Add ginger and garlic, tumeric, chili powder, garam masala, rajma masala, chaat masala, amchur powder, and coconut, and cook for a minute or so.<\/li>\n<li>Add tomatoes, sugar and salt and cook for a few more minutes.<\/li>\n<li>Add channa and a little water and cook for 10-15 minutes.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Channa Masala Chaat<\/span><br \/>\nPuris<br \/>\nChanna masala<br \/>\nYogurt thinned out with a little cold water<br \/>\nSweet tamarind chutney (we use bottled from the Indian market)<br \/>\nMint\u00a0chutney\u00a0(we use bottled from the Indian market)<br \/>\nOnions diced<br \/>\nCilantro chopped<br \/>\nBlack salt<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Break up puris into a bowl.<\/li>\n<li>Top with channa masala.<\/li>\n<li>Cover with a good amount of the yogurt.<\/li>\n<li>Add sweet chutney (quite a bit) and mint chutney (just a little).<\/li>\n<li>Top with onions and cilantro.<\/li>\n<li>Sprinkle with black salt.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<div class=\"social-likes social-likes_notext\" data-title=\"Channa Masala Chaat\" data-url=\"https:\/\/mayabugs.com\/blog\/channa-masala-chaat\/\" data-counters=\"yes\"><div class=\"facebook\" title=\"Share link on Facebook\"><\/div><div class=\"plusone\" title=\"Share link on Google+\"><\/div><div class=\"twitter\" data-via=\"mayabugs\" title=\"Share link on Twitter\"><\/div><div class=\"pinterest\" title=\"Share image on Pinterest\" data-media=\"\"><\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I am so excited.
