I go a little nuts for fun bottles and pastes!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Vegetables &amp; Herbs<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #888888;\"><strong>Ginger<\/strong> &#8211; Fresh ginger is always preferable to the jar.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #888888;\"><strong>Green Chilis<\/strong> &#8211; Spicy!<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #888888;\">Limes\/Lemons<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #888888;\"><strong>Curry Leaves<\/strong> &#8211; Oh I love the smell of curry leaves frying. Used in South Indian cooking.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #888888;\"><strong>Cilantro<\/strong> &#8211; For everything!<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #888888;\"><strong>Other herbs: Thai Basil, Mint, Methi Leave<\/strong>s &#8211; We don&#8217;t keep these on hand all the time since they go bad so fast, but they are essential in some dishes.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #888888;\"><strong>Vegetables: Cabbage, Carrots, Cauliflower + Vegetables We&#8217;ll Use Soon<\/strong> &#8211; The first three tend to keep for a while, whereas other vegetables (green beans, okra, tindora, eggplant, spinach, etc.) tend to go bad faster.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Breads<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #888888;\"><strong><strong>Fresh Rot<\/strong>i &#8211; <\/strong>From the Indian market down the street. I dread the day we won&#8217;t live near an Indian market and I&#8217;ll finally have to learn how to make these right!<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #888888;\"><strong>Bread for Toast &#8211; <\/strong>Whole wheat, gluten free, sourdough, etc.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #888888;\"><strong>Corn Tortillas<\/strong> &#8211; The kind from the regular grocery store last a long time. Not sure if this is a good thing, but it is convenient :-). Sometimes we have flour tortillas too, but they just don&#8217;t last the same so we get them when we need them.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong style=\"color: #888888;\">Yeast<\/strong><span style=\"color: #888888;\"> &#8211; For pizza dough.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Dairy, Etc.<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #888888;\"><strong>Milk &#8211; <\/strong>I like whole milk for lattes<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #888888;\"><strong>Yogurt<\/strong> &#8211; So many good kinds.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #888888;\"><strong>Sour cream<\/strong> &#8211; Only Knudsen brand, ever.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #888888;\"><strong>Olive Oil\/Butter Spread<\/strong> &#8211; Just olive oil and butter. Those other &#8220;heart healthy&#8221; spreads have things in them that I don&#8217;t trust!<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #888888;\"><strong>Butter<\/strong> &#8211; Salted sticks.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #888888;\">Extra Sharp Cheddar Cheese &#8211; <\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #888888;\">Keeps for a while and can be used in anything. We get other cheeses sometimes, but they aren&#8217;t a staple.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong style=\"color: #888888;\">Jam<\/strong><span style=\"color: #888888;\"> &#8211; For toast.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Bottles\/Pastes<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #888888;\"><strong>Srirachi Sauce (Rooster)<\/strong> &#8211; Asian hot sauce.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #888888;\"><strong>Sambal Oelek<\/strong> &#8211; Asian chili paste.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #888888;\"><strong>Ketchup<\/strong> &#8211; Not just for french fries. Fantastic to richen up spaghetti sauce and paneer makhani.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #888888;\"><strong>Maggi Hot &amp; Sweet Tomato Chili Sauce<\/strong> &#8211; Tejas&#8217;s go to condiment.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #888888;\"><strong>Ginger Paste<\/strong> &#8211; I like the Trader Joe&#8217;s frozen garlic cubes, otherwise I would get ginger and garlic paste instead.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #888888;\"><strong>Tamarind Date Chutney<\/strong> &#8211; For chaat! The bottle on the right is the best.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #888888;\"><strong>Mint Chutney<\/strong> &#8211; For chaat!<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #888888;\"><strong>Tangy Tomato Pickle<\/strong> &#8211; So good with yellow dal.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #888888;\"><strong>Tamarind<\/strong> &#8211; I like two kinds, the natural kind for Indian food and the kind in the bottle on the left for pad thai. I will try the natural kind next time I make pad thai though, maybe I&#8217;ll change my mind \ud83d\ude42<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #888888;\"><strong>Kokum<\/strong> &#8211; Not really a bottle, but I store it in a glass container. It is used in Gujarati cooking and has similar properties to tamarind. It adds tang.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #888888;\"><strong>Gyoza Dipping Sauce<\/strong> &#8211; Mmm, tangy, salty, sweet.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #888888;\"><strong>Trader Joe&#8217;s General Tsao Sauce<\/strong> &#8211; Good for quick stir fries.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #888888;\"><strong>Whole Foods Thai Red Curry Paste<\/strong> &#8211; I like this better than the versions at the Asian market.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #888888;\"><strong>Thai Green Curry Paste<\/strong> &#8211; Aroy-D has a good vegetarian one.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #888888;\"><strong>Hoisin Sauce<\/strong> &#8211; For moo shu.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #888888;\"><strong>Chili Paste with Fermented Bean Paste<\/strong> &#8211; We usually have a version or two of this.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #888888;\"><strong>Gochujang<\/strong> &#8211; Korean hot pepper and fermented bean paste.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #888888;\">Teriyaki Sauce<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #888888;\"><strong>Hoisin Sauce<\/strong> &#8211; For moo shu.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #888888;\"><strong>BBQ Sauce<\/strong> &#8211; A bold and smokey version. Great with ranch dressing on a BBQ ranch salad.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #888888;\">Mustard<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #888888;\"><strong>Mayo<\/strong> &#8211; Only the full fat kind, none of this light mayo, ew!<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #888888;\"><strong>Ranch Dressing<\/strong> &#8211; Trader Joe&#8217;s Parmesan Ranch is my favorite!<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Here are the staples we keep cold.
